How to look like a Diva this Diwali?

last updated at November 8, 2023 | 5 min Read

Diwali is just around the corner and you know what the best part of celebrating it is? Spending precious time with friends and family, exchanging gifts, enjoying endless sweets, and dressing up in a full desi look. But, with so much hustle and bustle going around this festive season, pre-planning your Diwali outfits can be a smart decision. And girl, we are here to help you with that!

What to wear and style up this Diwali?

Diwali Outfit Ideas:

With so many Diwali outfit options around, it can get daunting to choose a dress that will suit you the best. The lehenga sets, kurta suits, palazzo sets, and indo-western outfits - there is a trendy design available in all. But, the real question is how do you just pick one?

When choosing a look or an outfit, the most important thing to consider is your comfort. You might feel comfortable in a kurta set and not in a lehenga choli and that’s okay! You can go for one that makes you feel the best! If you are the one who is prone to be upon her toes the entire time, go for  modern Diwali outfits that are lightweight but have bold prints and motifs and will look perfect for the festivities.

But, if you have a choice to go loud then why not, go for a palazzo set with an embroidered crop top and you are sure to look like a diva this Diwali. Diwali is the best time to experiment with your look as you can go all out and wear shimmers.

A Diwali Saree look is also a good option to consider. Pull out a saree from your mom’s closet and give it a modern twist or buy one that flatters you the most. But, if the options that are listed above don’t seem like you, you can still look fabulous in a kurta set. A plain kurta and pyjama paired with a heavy brocade or a contrast Banarasi dupatta make for a perfect festive look.

Jewellery:

Once you choose a Diwali outfit, selecting a piece of jewellery won’t take much time. Always try balancing your outfit with the jewellery and accessories you choose. If your Diwali outfit has bold and big motifs choose a jewellery design with a smaller one and vice versa.

You don’t want any element of your look to overpower it. Keep your jewellery minimal if you have a heavy outfit. But, if your Diwali dress is plain and simple try adding bold pieces of jewellery that will make it festive.

Now, if you are planning to go for a bold diamond necklace set or just a necklace or diamond earrings, go for one that accentuates your neckline and balances the look. For example, if you have a deep neckline don’t go for a mala or a choker necklace instead go for a collar necklace.

Whereas, if you are wearing a turtleneck or a closed neck blouse just go for heavy jhumka earrings, that will elevate your face and your look. Kundan and diamond pieces set in gold are perfect for Diwali, but in case you want to try something new go for oxidised jewellery if you have silver elements on your dress. They are quite in right now and look stunning especially when the night light falls on them.

To complete the look, wear some bangles or a Kada bracelet and a ring and you will look stunning.

Hairstyles:

Outfits checked, Jewellery checked, and now it’s time for the hairstyle. Depending on your mood, you can select a hairstyle that suits your Diwali dress and you the best. Go for an updo or a bun hairstyle with some flowers in your hair or let those luscious hair down! It’s up to you. If you don’t know which one you should go with, you can head on to Pinterest and you will surely get an option that you like.

Footwear:

Your footwear is something that will complete your attire. Since we are going for a desi look, punjabi juttis, Kolhapuris, or a pair of embroidered heels would be an apt option. Match your footwear with your outfit or wear something contrast but make sure it's festive and comfortable.
