An Open Letter To Mother Earth

Dear Mother,

There is no love greater in this world than a mother's love. You've always taken care of us without complaining. You have always granted our wishes just to make sure your children are happy. But we have been nothing short of selfish. We know an apology won't undo all the harmful things that we have done to you, but would still want to start with it.

We're sorry!

As we're in our homes because of the country-wide lockdown, everyone is talking about how you're healing. It's heart warming as well as distressing to see how wildlife that was never known to exist in places has been sighted, lazing around as we did. Flamingos in Mumbai, Olive Ridley Turtles in Orissa, Dolphins in Meerut, Leatherback Turtles in Thailand, White Swans in Venice and many more!

What have we done? We haven't just plundered our homes, but also caused a great deal of trouble to your children.

We're very very sorry!

On this beautiful Sunday, we'd like to pledge an oath - We will do one good deed every day! A deed as small as throwing garbage in the dustbin or feeding a stray dog... 7.7billion good deeds is a great start!

The rise in population has resulted in the drop of flora and needs to be compensated by planting more trees to produce oxygen that will combat the harmful effects of carbon dioxide. The drop in carbon dioxide level will directly lower collateral damage of the greenhouse effect and stop the polar ice caps from melting.

Besides, trees are also responsible for maintaining the water levels, cleaning and holding the soil, control noise pollution and many more!

Conservation of water is another crucial step that can be achieved by making these minor changes - using water only when necessary, avoid wasting water, harvesting rainwater, turning off the tap while brushing, fix leaking faucets and sprinklers, stop overwashing vehicles, water lawns only when needed, etc.

Even though you have been hinting us about your problems via some way or the other, we have been selfish enough to overlook them all. Now, no more!

We will also educate all those who are not aware of your current state and come together to heal you as soon as possible.
