How To Care For Your Jewellery 101

Have you been passed down a classic jewel as a family heirloom? Or did you recently buy a stylish piece of jewellery that’s now your prized possession? No matter what your favourite jewellery is, you definitely want to keep it safe and sound. Your jewellery goes through wear and tear on a daily basis and needs to be taken care of. Since jewellery cleaning services can be expensive, you can easily maintain your jewellery at home. Here's a step-by-step guide to maintaining your favourite jewellery and keeping it shining!

Step 1: Wash Up!

If you wear your jewellery on a regular basis, it’s important to wash it from time to time. You can start by soaking it in lukewarm water with mild detergent or liquid soap. Use a soft bristle brush to clean the dirt off its crevices. Make sure you don’t use bleach as it can harm your jewellery. But there are a few exceptions to this. Avoid any liquid contact with your enamel jewellery.

Step 2: Wipe Gently

Wipe your jewellery with velvet or soft cotton cloth at regular intervals after you are done wearing it and immediately after washing it to maintain the shine and lustre of the gold, platinum and other metals that the jewellery is made of.

Step 3: Store Safely

Make sure to store your jewellery pieces in the jewellery box they came in. In case you have misplaced your box, you can keep it lined in a soft velvet or cotton cloth or pouch, separated from other jewellery. This is mainly to avoid scratches or chipping of diamonds or gemstones and to retain their original shine.
